Living Israel reports

The remembrances of the war

Report about our life and service during the secong Lebanese war.

One year has passed since the beginning with the Lebanese War II. So we have decided to post some photos, that we have taken during that time.

The majority of the inhabitants of the North have left, during the time of the war, to South of the country, where it was safe. Those who remained had to go down to the bomb shelter, when the sound of siren was.

This is what it looked like.

Some people, who decided that the bomb shelter was not for them, were met on the top of the roof to look at the missiles flying over head. This is what it looked like.

Right after the missiles fell, the police, army, fire-brigades, ambulance and reporters would come, as well as the local on-lookers would be there.

Frontier guards encircled the territory and protected the missile remains from the most brave passers-by.

One of the "katusha" whizzed over our shelter and fell in the yard of the neighbors house, a 100 m. from our "staff ", without exploding it went deep under the ground. It took more than one hour to dig it out with such an excavator as this.

After the missiles were dug out, they were taken away in special made car-safes to prevent any further damage.

Unfortunately the majority of the missiles blew up and left on after burst of such consequences. This particular one fell on the street where Gleb and Marina live, approximately 100 meters from their house.

Marina took a camera and went to shoot photos an accident just before saving the emergency crew.

The missiles were filled with hundreds of metal balls, which sifted by everything that was close by.

After explosions one could see the large holes that were left in the asphalt.

Fortunately, nobody was at the vehicle at the time.

One of the houses in Gleb's neighborhood looked like this.

One of "katusha" hit in the house, where believers from our congregation lived. The first two floors were hit hard, but the third one, where they lived, explosions didn't touch.

The missile fell in the yard of the house, threw metal balls, which flew across the apartment, and punched the metal door and even got into the entrance.

In Haifa flew more powerful missiles, and one of them hit a roof top of a house, penetrating the two upper floors.

All the house-top got in the bedroom, in that time all the family was in the safe place and nobody got suffered.

The walls of the apartment were look like that. Behind the broken wall is seen wardrobe, standing in the living room.

One more house in Haifa after direct hit.

Antique houses of "German colony" community in Haifa, also became the victims of firing. In the supermarket, behind the house, the blast wave smashed the window panes.

Everybody defended them-self from missiles their own way. The majority of people concealed themselves under the heavy walls of the bomb shelters.

But someone could stick up for theme-self on their own.

Fearless workers from the Church and reha-center were occupied with evacuated families from the North of Israel to believers who were ready to accept refugees in their homes.

This family Taras and Andrey (guys from rehab center) evacuated from Zfat. During their trip one missile fell several tens of meters from their van. God has kept them and nobody suffered. Without knowing about special cars-safes, designed for taking away remains of the missiles, the guys quickly loaded the missile in the trunk...

And brought it to Gleb, as a gift for his birthday,

Continue after their trip to the South...

Also, during the war, we have organized a summer camp for children not far from Jerusalem. Summer camp was pre-arranged one year before the war and was opened one day before war, thankfully the to that children didn't hear or firings.

Because of the war the number of children and their parents who wanted to get into the camp, far away as possible from the firing, was a few times more, than what was planned in the beginning.

Contemporary camp: electricity, light, communications, music.

For children was prepared the spacious program: walking-tours, zoos, water parks, competitions...

Excursion in the airport Ben-Gurion...

And, of course, the pool, which was help to overcome summer heat.

About all the work, was written later in the local newspaper. There was a work out not without journalistic exaggerations.

That part of the Church, which left at the North, was gathered at homes and in the monastery (rehab center), which the thick walls lended credence.

One of the Saturday meetings at the Monastery.

God's help and the hope for good helped us to come through that war.
